Mark your calendars for the 2010 Conway EcoFest to be held at Laurel Park the second Saturday in September – Saturday September 11th, 2010.

The Conway EcoFest is a non-traditional, highly interactive, educational community event  designed for all ages and diverse interests, and will take a broad and balanced look at our environment, similar to science/children’s museums.  Exhibits will engage and encourage participants to explore the overlapping nature of environmental issues and our daily lives. Many practical/local opportunities will be explored as well.

Profiles Productions, a division of Independent Living Services, has sponsored this event. Representatives from Profiles Productions will be available to answer any questions you may have during the event.

Profiles  Productions offers employment to over 40 people with developmental disabilities in recycling and contract work positions.

EcoFest’s Mission

To create a highly interactive environmental community festival that celebrates the interconnected web of life, demonstrates present ecological issues and imbalances, and invites and portrays creative exploration of new ways of living that are more balanced, united and enjoyable.

Arkansas Hospice Volunteers

Five ladies who attend Profiles Enrichment Center, a day program for adults who have developmental disabilities, recently received their certificates for completing their training to become Arkansas Hospice Volunteers. The ladies will be visiting hospice patients in local nursing homes.

CARF International to purchase and display consumer artwork

Four original works of consumer art have been selected to be purchased and displayed in the CARF International headquarters office located in Tucson, Arizona.
All original works of art were created in David Antonio’s art class at Profiles Enrichment Center, the adult day program of Independent Living Services, in Conway. Four of the eleven works of art
“Response to our invitation to submit photos of artwork was enthusiastic,” according to CARF International.  ”We received nearly 1,000 submissions, which exceeded our expectations. All submissions seemed to magnificently capture the artists’ feelings and interpretations.”
“This is really great news for our art class. I knew we had a good chance of having artwork selected, but I wasn’t expecting it,” said Art Instructor David Antonio. “The consumers were very proud of each other’s accomplishments. When they found out their classmates were given a $100 for their artwork, they gave them a thunderous applause.”
